Hi, I'm Fynn.
I’m Pierce's younger twin brother by two minutes. Though I spend much of my time sailing competitively, I love anything to do with water—scuba-diving, snorkeling, surfing, fishing. Simply being around water rejuvenates and restores me. I do, however, spend time on land and enjoy playing golf or chess or walking my two favorite dogs Gesha and Miako.
I started sailing for fun on an Open Bic, a summer camp boat. In 2019, at 12 years old, I moved into Optis and quickly realized I wanted to compete in sailing. I worked hard to get on the National Team and Team USA within the next year, where I had the privilege to travel the world for different competitions and meet many sailors along the way. In 2021, I was 3rd in the country and won the North American Championships. After the Worlds, my brother and I jumped into the 29er boat together and went to the Open 29er Worlds in Valencia, Spain. We were fortunate enough to get into the second fleet out of six, an experience that only made me more driven to compete alongside my twin. Throughout 2021-2024, Pierce and I sailed 29er and started to improve in results: we won multiple national events, finished third in the U17 category at the Worlds in 2022, and qualified for the Youth Worlds in Lake Garda 2024, where we finished Sixth. Simultaneously, during the school year we competed in high school events in both the 420 and FJs and competed at Nationals. We represented The Hotchkiss School at every New England Championships while finishing within the top four of every National Team racing event. Given our strong placement at both the National and Worlds levels, the United States Olympic Development Program recruited us this year to train with past and present Olympians in the 49er class.
For years I’ve managed to balance intense daily training and a busy competition calendar alongside Hotchkiss’ rigorous academic course load. This Fall, my brother and I have continued a heavy 49er training schedule with the aspiration of competing in the Olympics LA in 2028 and Brisbane, Australia in 2032. In college, I hope to continue to balance a world-class education with high-performance sailing.
Sail It Forward
I love to learn and work on what I've learnt to get better and more skilled. I have been fortunate to be able to have this opportunity and realise many do not. For that reason we started our foundation Sail It Forward over four years ago to collect gently used equipment and gear to donate to other sailors from around the world. We met the R.O.P.E foundation at North Americans in 2020 and have been collaborating with them. Nothing feels better than to give and see the genuine gratitude of sailors and clubs for items that we use on a daily basis that they do not have access or funds to get.
We want to spread the message and sail it forward by reaching all Opti sailors and their clubs. If you want to help out you visit our website by clicking the link below!
